Digitalisation of the Land Registry

25/05/2017

The Land Registry has recently advertised for non-executive board members to provide oversight and advice to digitally transform the Land Registry. This follows on from the Government's recent commitment to make the Land Registry "...the world's leading land registry for speed, simplicity and an open approach to data...".

The Land Registry are going to be trialling "Blockchain" a robust distributed database. If successful, this would bring the UK an almost instantaneous registration of changes to property ownership and charges which will benefit not only property owners but lenders and financial institutions. In order to meet Government commitments, Land Registry will need to become more digitised and customer-centric. In the near future, we expect Land Registry will begin a live test of a “Digital Street” which would enable the ownership of property to be changed close to instantaneously.
