Newcastle City Council is looking for a developer to deliver its £200m proposed mixed scheme - the final phase of the Stephenson Quarter. The site, situated in the regeneration area between the Central Station and the Quayside, is the acid test for investors' nerve, with the sword of Damocles of a hard Brexit hanging over the city. Newcastle was an island of "Remain" in a sea of "Leave", although even solidly-leave Northumberland is now wavering. It is a nail-biting time, with all versions of Brexit predicted by DEXEU to hit the North East hardest, with a hard Brexit estimated on the Government's figures to shrink the local economy by 16%.
